You probably won't fool anyone into thinking these treats are really bacon and eggs, but they should elicit smiles on April Fool's Day! No, there aren't any real eggs or bacon involved in this treat version of a breakfast (or breakfast-for-dinner) favourite, but I thought I share the recipe anyway since it's egg-themed and so easy and fun to make. Faux Bacon and Eggs * White chocolate or white chocolate candy melts (I found Callebaut white chocolate wafers at Bulk Barn) * Pretzel sticks * Yellow Smarties, M & M's, or Reese's Pieces (in a pinch, use yellow jelly beans cut in half or even orange Smarties, etc. - just depends how dark you like the yolks!) On Medium power in the microwave, melt white chocolate until softened, but not completely melted. Stir until melted. If necessary, heat for a few additional seconds but don't melt the chocolate completely in the microwave or you run the risk of scorching it. (Instead of the microwave, you can melt the chocolate in a double boiler on the stove.) On a waxed paper or parchment paper-lined baking sheet, position pretzel sticks in groups of three. Create the "egg white" by spooning a little white chocolate over the pretzel stick trios. Add the "yolk" by placing a Smartie on top of the white chocolate. I prefer to complete a few at a time so the white chocolate doesn't begin to set before the Smartie is added. Let set. Serve - perhaps in a clean frying pan?
