Egg Farmers in the Classroom!

A Unique Opportunity for Ontario Teachers!

As educators, we know the value of hands-on learning and the excitement that comes from introducing new topics in ways that are both fun and educational. That’s why we’re thrilled to invite you to participate in the Farm to Table Student Eggs-perience, a dynamic program developed by Egg Farmers of Ontario. This initiative is designed to help students connect with their food and learn about the journey of eggs, from the farm to their table, while meeting curriculum expectations related to food literacy and agriculture.

Why Join the Farm to Table Student
Eggs-perience?

This program offers students a comprehensive, interactive learning experience that brings the world of egg farming directly into your classroom.

Through a series of engaging activities, your students will gain valuable insights into the food system, healthy eating, and the importance of local agriculture. It’s a fantastic way to support food literacy while making real-world connections between the classroom and the farm.

Program Overview

1. Farmer Presentation (In-Person)
The first part of the program features an Ontario egg farmer who will visit your classroom to deliver a one-hour, age-appropriate presentation. Your students will learn about life on an egg farm, the different types of hens, housing styles, and the process of egg collection before they make their way to the grocery store. This presentation is designed to be interactive, engaging, and tailored to your students’ grade level.

To give you a better understanding of what to expect, we’ve created a special video featuring Emma Anifowose, our Education Programs Coordinator, who developed the Farm to Table Student Eggs-perience, and an Ontario egg farmer who shares their personal insights into the program. In the video, Emma talks about the importance of food literacy, while the farmer discusses the hands-on experience students will have with egg farming. You’ll also see photos from past visits, giving you a sneak peek into the exciting learning experience ahead.

2. The Grading Station – STEM Activity (Teacher-Led)
After the farmer’s visit, you’ll have the chance to conduct a fun STEM activity in your classroom. This hands-on project could include experiments like studying the strength of eggshells or creating simple conveyor systems that mimic the egg production process. The activity will encourage creativity and give students an opportunity to apply what they learned during the farmer presentation. It’s a fantastic way to reinforce scientific concepts while keeping students engaged and excited about what they’re discovering!

3. The Kitchen – Interactive Lesson (Teacher-Led)
Next, we’ll provide you with a curriculum-linked kitchen lesson to explore the nutritional benefits of eggs and their versatility in various recipes. Students will learn to identify different egg-based foods, understand the nutrients in eggs, and explore egg carton labels. This part of the program helps students appreciate how eggs fit into a healthy diet and supports their understanding of food choices in the real world.

Why It’s Worth It
