EGG CARTON PADDLE BALL | EGGS-CITING ACTIVITY

After the holiday festivities have begun to wind down, this easy and custom craft is the perfect activity to fill the time between New Year’s Eve and back to school. Create memorable long-lasting fun with the Egg Carton Paddle Ball!

What you need to get started:

  • 12-egg carton
  • Ruler
  • String
  • Aluminum foil
  • Masking tape (or other strong adhesive tape)
  • Marker
  • Scissors
  • Pen (optional)
  • Craft paint or coloured markers (optional)

Step 1: Cut and mark

Cut your egg carton across the length of the container, using only the bottom half. Have a dark-coloured marker ready to number each egg cup from 1 to 12 in ascending order. This will serve as the score for your game.

Step 2: Prepare your ball

Prepare a ball by using a sheet of aluminum foil, tear approximately 12 inches off the roll.

Step 3: Prepare the string

Cut a piece of string measuring 10 inches in length. Keep a few inches of string on the foil sheet, then scrunch the rest of the foil into a ball just the right size to easily fit into the egg carton. Make sure to keep the end of the string in the center of the aluminum ball to keep it in place.

Step 4: Attach the ball and string

Use the end of a pen or the point of your scissors to pierce a hole through the center of the carton. Pull the string through the same hole and tie a knot. Keep the string in place under the carton by using a piece of tape over the knot.

Step 5: Make the handle

Make the paddle by attaching your ruler directly to the egg carton. Turn the carton over and hold your ruler in place across the length of the container. Secure multiple pieces of tape from side to side all the way down the carton.

Step 6: Decorate

Decorate the carton using craft paint or coloured markers. Feel free to add other personalized items to make your paddle truly unique!

Now you’re ready to play! Challenge a family member or keep score for a personal challenge. Toss the ball into the air while keeping score of which number it lands in. The person reaching the highest number out of three tosses wins!
