About Lois Betteridge

Lois has always loved spending time outdoors, exploring with her friends, and pursuing various sports. Whitewater paddling was an integral part of Lois’s childhood, building a foundation for her high performance journey, which began in 2015 when she made the Canoe Slalom Junior National Team for the first time.

Lois has learned the importance of resilience, goal setting, and persistence from experiences such as bouncing back from injuries, performance setbacks, or fighting for equality and the inclusion of women’s canoe in the Olympic program. Lois is passionate about creating a fun and inclusive environment for sport when coaching and mentoring young paddlers. She has been active in engaging and maintaining youth participation at the Ottawa River Runners.

Since then Lois has won three medals at the PanAmerican Games, secured multiple national champion titles, and 2024 marked an incredible year for Lois when she achieved one of her longtime goals by competing at the Olympic Games in Paris. She was the first Canadian athlete to compete in all three whitewater disciplines, and is looking to continue her journey toward Los Angeles 2028.
