Egg farmers across the province are joining together on a journey towards a cleaner, greener and environmentally-friendly industry. Canada’s egg farmers are leading the way in agriculture when it comes to these advancements in clean technology.
At the forefront of innovation over the past 50 years, Canadian egg production has increased by 50 per cent, while the industry’s environmental footprint has been reduced by almost 50 per cent. Even with such an increase in production the industry still has managed to reduce energy consumption by over 40 per cent.
In keeping with this trend, four eastern Ontario farms are among 17 in the province recently awarded a combined $7.4 million for clean technology projects.
“The grant will be honored by the federal Agricultural Clean Technology program that’s intended to boost on-farm energy efficiency, green energy, precision agriculture and the bio-economy,” according to Agriculture and Agri-food Canada.
Among those awarded funding approvals for new solar panel installations is M.S. Leroux Ltee of Prescott County. Marcel Leroux and his daughter Mirielle are first and second generation egg farmers who operate an aviary farm, producing organic brown eggs for families across the province.
