Egg farmer Marcel visits CTV Ottawa to talk about eggs

October 22nd, 2010

I bet egg farmer Marcel from St. Isidore, Ontario didn’t have to get up nearly as early as egg farmer Dianne and I this morning. Then again, most likely he did so he could get his farm work done before trekking into Ottawa! Both of our farmers were making TV appearances today to talk about our Who Made Your Eggs Today? campaign, but Dianne and I were on CHCH’s morning show (make that – early morning show!) taping in Dundas, while Marcel and food stylist Anne Nicol of Ottawa were on CTV Ottawa’s News at Noon show. You can watch the two-part interview Marcel and Anne did with host Leanne Cusack and see Anne make one of Marcel’s family’s favourite egg recipes (Layered Vegetable Salad), get this recipe and other ones too, and learn lots of egg-citing tips and trivia by visiting CTV Ottawa’s website. You can also see Marcel do a couple egg tricks – spin eggs to tell the difference between raw and boiled (cooked) eggs in the shell, and test egg freshness in water. Just to clarify the water freshness test – if an egg floats as much as the one in the clip does, it’s well past the Best Before date stamped on the carton and should be thrown out. We recommend using eggs by the Best Before date for the best flavour and quality. Also, for hard-boiling (cooking), it’s best to use an egg that has been in your fridge for at least a week rather than one fresh from the store as it will peel more easily than a fresh egg. Here’s the link to see the videos – Eggs on CTV Ottawa And here are links to the recipes Anne prepared:

If you happened to see Dianne or Marcel this morning, let me know what you thought!
