Description

Prepare the night before and allow it to sit in the refrigerator overnight before baking the next day.

Instructions

Place the precooked breakfast sausage links into the food processor and pulse until crumbled/minced. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside for a later step.

Cut the apple into half and core out the center. Dice the apples into ½ inch chunks with the skin on and add to the bowl with the minced sausage; mix gently.

Cut the leftover/stale bread into ½ inch chunks. Place it into the bowl with the apples and the sausage. Stir gently.  Lightly grease an 8’ inch baking pan and spread the bread/apple & sausage mixture evenly in the pan.

In another large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk and cinnamon together;  pour evenly over the bread mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before baking.

Preheat the oven to 350’F. Remove the baking pan from the refrigerator while the oven heats and remove the plastic. Dot butter over the top of the bread mixture. Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake covered with foil for 60 minutes. Remove the lid and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown and set.

Heat the remaining amount of syrup in the microwave or in a small pot on the stove. Once heated, pour it over the Apple & Sausage French Toast Bake and allow it to stand 10 minutes before serving.

Cut the pan into 4 by 2 to yield 8 servings.
