Snickerdoodle Monster Cookies

monster cookies for halloween

Halloween 2020 might look a little different than those of the past, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fearsome amount of fun for the whole family! Here’s a spooky activity that will enchant kids and parents alike. Snickerdoodle Monster Cookies!

The best part about these cookies is that you get to be your own captain when it comes to decorating them. Will you make a terrifying beast with enormous teeth? Or a funny looking, one-eyed critter? How about a monster with marshmallow horns bigger than its head? It’s up to you! Find some yummy, decorative goodies and let your little monsters go wild.

Have a look at some of the creepy (but tasty!) little creatures we’ve created. These small but fierce monsters are fiendishly delicious when made with our Snickerdoodle recipe. Snickerdoodles are a classic for any baker – they’ve got crisp edges with a surprisingly chewy centre. Rolled in cinnamon and sugar, they’re the perfect base to your monster creation! Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp sea salt

Cinnamon Sugar (for rolling)

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅔ tbsp ground cinnamon

As filling and “glue” we’ve used our Cream Cheese Icing recipe. It’s thick and perfectly delicious in combination with any cookie.  All you’ll need is:

  • 4 ½ oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Icing sugar
  • Food colouring

If you want Halloween monsters to exist in a variety of colours, we suggest dividing your icing in order to colour it. We divided ours into three separate bowls, adding pink, green and blue food colouring respectively. Next, we piped the icing in between two sandwiched Snickerdoodle cookies. Make sure to pipe in enough icing to allow for teeth or other decorations.  Add some icing on top too – this will let you press in any candies you’d like to use as decoration. Add only a little or plenty – it’s up to you!
