Are hens ever given antibiotics?

Answered by Egg Farmers of Ontario February 24th, 2017

Answer

All eggs sold in Ontario are produced without the use of antibiotics.

Antibiotics are only permitted on egg farms with a veterinarian’s prescription. In the rare instances that laying hens are treated for illness, their eggs are discarded and not sold for consumption.
