What causes my eggs to have the yolk at the bottom?

Answered by Egg Farmers of Ontario July 15th, 2021

Answer

Eggs are typically placed in cartons with the pointed end facing down to help keep the yolk centered. This position also protects the egg’s air cell, which is located at the wider end, and helps maintain freshness.

If you notice the yolk positioned closer to the wide end, it might be because the eggs were stored upside down in the carton. Don’t worry—these eggs are still perfectly safe and delicious to eat!
