Yes, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which is the regulatory body that oversees food production and manufacturing in Canada, requires that all eggs be washed as part of the grading process.
During washing, the egg’s protective bloom is removed. Without this bloom, the egg’s porous shell is more vulnerable to bacteria that it may come in contact with. Keeping eggs in the fridge will limit bacteria growth, making it less likely to pass through into the part of the egg you eat.
Refrigerating your eggs also keeps them fresher longer.
