What you’ll need:

  • Hamburger bun or English muffin
  • Egg
  • Cheese
  • Optional - Your choice of toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon slices)
  • Optional - Your choice of condiments (mustard, mayo, ketchup, hot sauce)

The process:

Preheat broiler or toaster oven. Cut your favourite cheese into slices and place on the bottom half of the burger bun. Place in oven.

In the meantime, fry up an egg. In a small frying pan, melt butter or heat oil over medium heat. Break egg into skillet. With flipper, break yolk and mix slightly with white. Season with salt and pepper. (If you think the egg will be larger than the bun, you can fold over some of the white onto itself to make the egg a little smaller. Or, cook the egg in an egg ring that fits the size of the bun.) When egg is set, flip over.

Remove bun from broiler, cheese should be melted – use spatula to place fried egg on top of cheese. If you like, add toppings and condiments. Enjoy on your own or cook up this easy recipe for friends and family!

The melted cheese in combination with the fried egg are probably what makes this such a mouth-watering and popular lunch and dinner idea. The quick process is just a perk! What’s even better is that a burger like this, despite the lack of a classic patty, still gives you a hit of protein and energy to power you up for whatever fun, summer activities lie ahead! Get cracking.
